Since its acquisition by Yahoo!, the newest version of the widget engine available has additional features available. You can now view icons of the widgets that are running, and more operating system specific commands have been added, including shell commands for the Windows operating system and AppleScript for the MAC platform. Some new versions allow for developers to use Flash or WebKit to create widgets using JavaScript and HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) encoding.
When looking at widgets that are available on Yahoo! Widgets, it is useful to keep in mind that these widgets are created by other people just like you. Yahoo! Widgets will list the widget's creator and its function in the download list, so you will be able to tell who built the widget and what it does.
